Living Well | The Rituals Making Home Feel More Intentional Lately

One of the things I love most about interior design is that it goes far beyond aesthetics. Every decision—from the layout of a room to the way natural light moves through it—has the ability to influence how we live, how we gather, and how we feel.

But after a project is finished, something else takes over.

I've realized that while thoughtful design creates the foundation, it's the small rituals we repeat every day that truly make a house feel like home.

Here are a few simple rituals that have been making home feel a little more intentional lately.

Opening the House Each Morning

One of the first things I do each morning is open the curtains and let natural light fill the rooms. Even on busy days, it immediately shifts the atmosphere of the house.

Fresh air, sunlight, and a few quiet moments before the day begins make everything feel a little lighter.

Making the Bed Before Anything Else

It's simple, but making the bed has become a non-negotiable ritual... well, most days.

There's something about returning to a room that feels organized at the end of the day. It doesn't have to be perfect, but taking a minute to reset the space creates a sense of calm that carries into the rest of the home.

Keeping Fresh Flowers Around

Not every week, and not always something elaborate.

Sometimes it's a bouquet from the grocery store. Sometimes it's clippings from the yard. But having something living in the house instantly makes a space feel cared for and alive.

It's one of the simplest ways to make an ordinary day feel a little more special.

Creating Small Moments Without a Screen

It's easy to spend an entire day moving from one screen to another.

Lately, I've been making a conscious effort to step away for a bit—whether that's enjoying my morning coffee outside, taking Jettie for a walk, or simply sitting quietly before the day gets busy.

I've realized home feels different when I actually slow down long enough to experience it.

Creating a Nighttime Reset

One of my favorite rituals happens at the end of the day.

As the evening winds down, I love dimming the lights, lighting a candle, doing my skincare, and taking a few minutes to prepare my room for the night. It's nothing elaborate, but those small habits signal that the workday is over.

Instead of jumping straight from work—or scrolling on my phone—into sleep, creating a slower evening routine helps me unwind and makes my bedroom feel like the peaceful retreat it's meant to be.

Resetting Spaces Before the Day Ends

Before heading to bed, I like spending a few minutes resetting the house.

A quick kitchen cleanup, fluffing the pillows in the living room, or simply putting things back where they belong takes very little time, but it completely changes how the house feels the next morning.

There's something incredibly calming about waking up to a space that's already ready for a new day.

The Beauty of Everyday Rituals

When we think about creating a home we love, it's easy to focus on the big things—a renovation, a new piece of furniture, or a room makeover. Those things certainly matter. But often, the feeling we're really after comes from the everyday rituals that happen within those spaces.

The morning light through the windows. Fresh flowers on the counter. A quiet cup of coffee outside. A candle glowing in the evening.

Design creates the foundation for a beautiful home. But sometimes, it's the little things we do after the design is finished that matter most.

So if you've been wanting your home to feel calmer, cozier, or a little more intentional, you don't necessarily need to start with a renovation. Maybe just start by opening the curtains tomorrow morning.
